This is a lovely set, one of the best I bought last year and thanks for such a detailed review.....I'm curious if anyone got a numbered copy though or if it is so scarce - it says limited edition on the slipcase but isnt numbered, or at least my copy isnt.

This is an excellent review of a truly excellent Jeff Beck release. I have been thoroughly enjoying the recordings of each show, which are new to my ears, but have been especially amazed with the December 17th recording. Although also at Budokan, it is noticeably superior in overall sound to the Budokan recording from about 2 weeks earlier contained in this set. Of particular appeal to me was Simon Philips' enormous performance on December 17th (and, really, every show). It was around this time in his storied history that he was attracting great attention because of numerous innovative drum patterns & techniques he created. We're able to clearly hear brilliant variations of them here in "Scatterbrain" and his solo, and the recording's nothing short of spectacular. Deep, booming, refined, nuanced, expansive, and so on, to hear it is to believe it. And the version of "Blue Wind" in this concert was just as gigantic as the other 3 shows contained in this superb release. Of further interest is the rhythm section of Philips and Mo Foster, who both catapulted the Michael Schenker Group's first album into the stratospheres earlier in the year before these shows with Jeff Beck in Japan. For music collectors, it's releases like this that can make this hobby so worthwhile.
