Event Number 8 on Live Soundboard Collection is a direct copy of Event Number Eight on Madison (CWP 03) released in 2000. It is a very good soundboard recording of the 2pm early show at the Houston Astrodome on March 3rd, 1974. Before 43,974, he played a show which lacked Joe Guercio’s orchestra with only The King, his rhythm band and back up singers.
Given the intimacy on stage the performance is very intimate. James Burton, Ronnie Tutt and the others compensate for the missing orchestra by giving little extras for a fuller sound. The highlights include Trying To Get To You, Johnny B. Goode, I Can’t Stop Loving You, Help Me, Let Me Be There, and How Great Thou Art. This is packaged in a digipack with period photos. If you liked this review, buy me a cup of joe. (Suggested: $3 a shot or $7.5 for a double)
