really excellent, i picked this up with the "melbourne " release and they have already been played several times: the sound is absolutely acceptable and the gig is so rare and interesting that this release should be in any decent floyd cd collection, once again the packaging is outstanding as always

This release is definitely interesting. I've never been much of a fan of the early Floyd stuff but between this release and Godfather's "First Australian Show GR321" I've become one. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun has become one of my favorites. Quite simply this release is too good to pass up.

Apparently, there are conflicting accounts of when the "beer down the tuba" incident transpired; in Nick Mason's book "Inside Out" he recalls it occured at Bath, whereas Mark Blake's "Comfortably Numb" mentions it occuring at Hyde Park. In light of this, I've edited this bit of trivia from the review, as it has no real bearing on my opinion of the recording anyway. Thanks for pointing that conflicting detail out - perhaps at some point someone will track down the victim of this incident & they can confirm which event it occured at (surely any musician wouldn't forget such a careless, offensive act)!

I've just listened to my fresh copy and agree with Plomerus' most detailed review. Only one bit of trivia: the "beer-down-the-tuba" incident is usually attributed to the Bath premier, not to this performance.

Regarding the points of discussion, Pink Floyd collectors are a bit more forgiving than others and if a tape is less than perfect we'll deal with it.

With that said, this is a listenable document of an important show and it's to Godfather's credit they pressed it on silver. This is a very nice release.

This is a no-brainer for Pink Floyd collectors. Even though the recording is a bit "raw", it is still very enjoyable. Once again Plomerus has done a great job describing the performance and audio quality while Godfather continues to offer beautifully packaged exciting releases.

Again, I know Godfather took a bit of a chance producing this title since typically they strive to release only the highest quality audio, and this is only lesser compared to their own body of work; there are so many examples from other labels that sound far worse or are even unlistenable - for long time fans and collectors this is a treasure. While it might not be the starting point for a new collector, it certainly would be a good next step after taking care of "the essentials." That being said, should the response be positive from this "experiment" of Godfather's in terms of taking a chance on items of this quality, then surely more will come, though I imagine ultimately the focus won't stray too far from amazing quality soundboards and ultra-high grade audience recordings - the occasional "gamble" is absolutely welcome in my book!

When I read the announcement concerning this release I was quite interested in picking it up since it was a early PF show making its silver debut on Godfather. I didn't know what to expect as far as sound quality and was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and separation of this source or sources. This is not a release that will just sit on my shelf and collect dust although it will look quite nice there.

This title is highly recommended for anyone who is a true Pink Floyd maniac. The title uses two different tapes to complete show. Sadly, both tapes are incomplete, but Godfather did their best to provide the most complete version of this incredible gig. Trust me! I've collecting PF low gens for many years and after I did a comparison, it seems this label used the best possible sources. The cover artwork is also great - it's one of my favourites right now really! I wish Godfather makes more titles like this!
