I try not to be too judgmental, but the cynic in me says that it’s much more of the latter rather than the former. I had already known that Lighthouse, etc. tend(s) to do this every time a legendary artist tragically dies, but what they’ve done this particular time with the late, great Jeff Beck is beyond ridiculous. I wouldn’t be surprised if George Santos somehow finds a way to personally profit himself from all this.

    • Yes well said Careful Axeman Eugene! 👍 As a collector, I find this situation leaves me in an ethical quandary. On the one hand I really do not like what the Lighthouse and Wardour labels are doing here. But on the other, these titles look really good – covering two of Jeff’s strongest eras (the first JB Group with Rod Stewart on vocals, and the ’75 ‘Blow by Blow’ tour) with excellent artwork and probably high quality tapes too. So – to buy or not to buy, that is the question … 🤔

      • I would get Dallas 1968 and Hawaii 1975 and be done with it. These ’75 boards are very “dry” sounding. Like Led Zeppelins’ 1973 boards back in the day. Although, Detroit 68 sounds decent enough. A notch below Dallas 68.

        • Thanks for the tip Cgil! I love the way a great audience recording often trumps a soundboard tape! I listened to some of the Hawaii ’75 recording on YouTube and it is fine sounding indeed.

  2. Jeff Beck releases
    • Pros
    • Interesting shows
    • Cons
    • Questionable timing?

A great batch of Jeff Beck releases are on the horizon here. However, I do question this regular phenomenon of an avalanche of cds following the death of a great artist. Is this honouring the life and work of a legend? Or is it a cynical cashing in on their sad passing by the underground labels? Probably a bit of both I guess. Capitalism at work ….
