Rock Band is a two disc set on RattleSnake documenting the material extracted from the Beatles Rock Band video game. The game includes forty-five songs from the albums recorded for EMI and with the exception of Magical Mystery Tour, the tracks are based on the UK release.
There are also six non-album singles and the edit of “Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows” from the 2006 remix album Love.
The video game was released in September 2009 on the same day the boxsets were released to universal praise. The sound quality of these extractions is immaculate, giving an immediacy to the Beatles’ catalogue that’s been absent from past release.
Most of these songs have some studio patter before hand giving an interesting context for the recording. Rock Band spans the entire recording career of the band, starting with “I Saw Her Standing There” through to several songs from Let It Be. Two other RattleSnake releases, Abby Road and Sgt Peppper, focus upon individual albums with the duplication in tracks. The artwork for this label is as usual exemplary with a thick booklet with many photographs from different eras.
