Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ debut album was released on October 17th, 2011.  After a week it debuted on the UK charts at number one and earned many positive reviews and, about three weeks after its release and before he started touring, appeared on BBC Radio 2.  One In A Million on Godfather presents the entire set in excellent sound quality.

Jo Whiley gives the introduction to the band before they start off with two Oasis tunes, “(It’s Good) To Be Free” and “Mucky Fingers” and the first three songs from the album, “Everybody’s On The Run,” “Dream On, ” and “If I Had A Gun.”

At one point he asks how they audience won their tickets.  After being told it was random, he is surprised and says “so you’re all just a bunch of random people?  Random people who just emailed in?  Unbelievable.”  He also played a track that isn’t included on the recently released Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds titled “Freaky Teeth.  Someone in the small audience pesters Noel to play it until he eventually does, dedicating it to “the gentleman in a rush.”

He plays two stripped down Oasis tunes, “Wonderwall” and “Supersonic” in the middle of the set followed by the Oasis-era “(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine.”

“AKA…What A Life” is one of the more adventurous songs on the new album since it’s more dance oriented than mellow, introspective rock.  He ends the set with the new song “(Stranded On) The Wrong Beach.”

One In A Million has excellent sound quality and captures Noel in a very good and engaging mood.  Since the current releases for this outfit are few, this serves as a very good addition to the collection.
