Pete Townshend’s solo work and rock opera Psychoderelict was released on June 15th, 1993. Almost two months later on August 7th he held a pay-per-view telecast from the Beacon Theater in New York. The set started with several older Townshend and Who songs, followed by a performance of the complete new album, and ending with more Townshend and Who classics.
Live In Los Angeles 1994 on Super Sonic gets the city, venue and year completely wrong. Also, it’s not the complete telecast either. Only “English Boy” is left from the new album. Super Sonic follows the same pattern as Pete Townshend: Rough Boy (Midas Touch WNS-668).
Titles such as The Academy (No Label Info), Music Must Change (Red Phantom RPCD 2151/52), and Pete Townshend: Virtual Reality (PTCD-9302-2) actually do contain the entire telecast and have great sound quality. These three are preferable to Super Sonic which should be avoided at all costs.
