  1. Clapton '86
    • Pros
    • Soundboard of strong live era
    • Cons
    • Phil Collins song in setlist!⚠️

Eric Clapton has often toured with large bands as a solo artist, but on a few outings he has pared his group back to a guitar/keyboard/bass/drums quartet. His 1970 tours with Derek and the Dominos, his 1978 European tour, and his roadwork in 1986-87 with this band come to mind. I think this format brings some of his best playing and singing on stage. Maybe with no other guitarist in the group, such as Albert Lee or George Terry, Eric feels he really has to step up? Whatever the reason, this mid-’80s quartet (sometimes with Steve Ferrone replacing Collins) delivered – check out the brilliant performance on the official Montreux DVD and other unofficial dates like Providence ’87 and MSG ’87. I have not heard the Roskilde soundboard, so welcome this new release from Beano.
