Yes – Releasing The Parallels (Highland HL433/434)

Releasing The Parallels (Highland HL433/434)

Boston Garden, Boston, MA – August 31, 1978

Disc 1 (54:59):  Opening, Siberian Khatru, Heart Of The Sunrise, Time And A Word, Long Distance Runaround, The Fish, Perpetual Change, Soon, Circus Of Heaven

Disc 2 (37:54):  Parallels, Release Release, Awaken Intro, Awaken, I’ve Seen All Good People

When Yes toured for Tormato the first time, included in the setlist was the energetic “Release, Release,” one of the best songs on the album and arguably their heaviest number.  It proved to be a bit too much for them to play every night and it lasted only for six shows.  It can be found in the opening night in Rochester and it’s final appearance is in the September 2nd Springfield, MA show.  It was replaced in the set by “Don’t Kill The Whale” starting with the first Hartford, Connecticut show.

Releasing The Parallels on Highland contains the fourth night of the tour, the second night in Boston.  The recording is fair to good, distorted and missing the high end.  Regarding the rarity “Release, Release,” this is a tight performance but there are better tapes around.

Highland uses a faulty tape which completely ruins this title.  The entire show exists on tape, but this copy is missing “Future Times / Rejoice,” “Clap,” and “On The Silent Wings Of Freedom.”  To make matters worse the songs are out of sequence.  The bottom line is, despite rarity this title is a complete disaster by Highland and should be avoided.  Hopefully one of the early Tormato shows with the rarity will be pressed on silver.
