Genesis – Small Club At Marquee (Highland HL104/05#G18)

Small Club At Marquee (Highland HL104/05#G18)

Marquee Club, London, England – September 27th, 1982

Disc 1 (52:02):  Dance on a Volcano, Behind the Lines, Follow You Follow Me, Dodo, Abacab, Supper’s Ready

Disc 2 (55:48):  Man On The Corner, Misunderstanding, In The Cage / Cinema Show, Afterglow, Turn It On Again, drum duet, Los Endos, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, I Know What I Like

Genesis’ Three Sides Live – Encoretour ended with this show at the Marquee and two at the Hammersmith Odeon, occuring right at the same time they were rehearsingfor the reunion show on October 2nd at Milton Keynes.  The September 27th Marquee show was taped by Colin Dodd on his walkman and he produced one of the best Genesis audience tapes to surface.

Highland released Small Club At Marquee in the late nineties from a relatively high generation tape.  It sounds pretty good although Dodd himself transferred the masters tapes onto cdr several years later and superior versions of this show exist.  Highland also used a defective generation, missing about three minutes of “Watcher of The Skies” which was segued after “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.”  Plus, the label misnamed “Misunderstanding” on the artwork as “No Reply At All.”

At the time this was a good release.  But the new generation sounds far superior to this and is complete with the missing “Watcher of the Skies.”  It is a tape that should be out on silver, and hopefully a label will release the definitive version.  Otherwise, Small Club At Marquee is not recommended.

  1. Yes, Gearard, you’re right. the CD-R version available out there is far superior being, for me, one of the best Genesis AUD tapes ever. It really deserves a silver release.
