The bulk of Piccadilly Circus’ Secret Live In New York 2007 is the second of three club gigs McCartney gave to promote Memory Almost Full.  An audience tape was released a week after the show on Full Of Memory on Premium Masters.  This new release on Piccadilly Circus was released soon afterwards.  It was hoped they used a better audience recording or even a soundboard, but they use the same DAT audience tape in good to very good quality with the identical cuts and fades.

A short review of the tape can be found in the Full Of Memory article below and a more detailed review including photos of the even can be found here.  Thus the center of interest for this release is the copious bonus material contained on disc two.  “Hello Amazon customers.  Paul McCartney here and I’m gonna play a song from my new album called ‘Dance Tonight.'”

He sings the first two verses and encourages everyone to buy the new album for friends, enemies and pets!   This is followed by the two and a half minute rehearsal clip for the London surprise gig with Paul introducing the band and playing a bit of “Only Mama Knows” and “Drive My Car” which was posted on youtube.

What follows are two clips from the London surprise gig.  The first is a ninety second fragment consisting of Paul talking to someone and the band playing a bit of Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox.”  The following two tracks come from the soundboard of the gig and have thirty seconds each of “Dance Tonight” and “Hey Jude.”

What follows is thirty seconds of “Dance Tonight,” sixty seconds of “Nod Your Head,” and fifty-eight seconds of “I Saw Her Standing There” from a soundboard recording of the New York secret gig.  The sound quality of these three are excellent and makes one wish the entire show would surface from this source.

The second disc closes with the complete four song set from the “Later With Jools Holland” show on BBC the day after the London secret gig.  Piccadilly Circus surprisingly omits the five minute interview Holland conducted with McCartney.  This label usually likes to include things like that so it is a minor disappointment.

Secret Live In New York 2007 is packaged in a double slimline jewel case with very thick color glossy inserts, which the label usually uses.  The sound quality of the New York isn’t a big improvement over the previous issue, but the addition of the bonus material makes this recommended and a good compliment for their Los Angeles tape released recently.  Now all we need is the complete London gig!
