More news on the Beatles Shea set.

Only around 2 – 3 weeks away, news behind the new His Masters Choice is rife.

We’ve learned from the excellent Wogblog site that the CD / DVD set will feature two versions of the audio selectable between the studio abated song track after the Beatles had tripped in to the studio and toughened up the music and vocals to beef up the poorer sound that was recorded live. This was consequently mixed to stereo in 1991 presumably for the Anthology series.
Alternately, you can hear the soundtrack as you would have heard it on the TV in 1967 in glorious mono.

The image is much cleaner than the Darthdisk liberated ABC master from earlier this millennium and a lot more like the Anthology promos we’ve had since 1995 / 1996.

The CD or “Disk two” also features a copy of the BBC documentary “The Beatles Abroad” originally broadcast on the 30th of August, 1965. The broadcast has been booted before but there are better recordings of it out there – Lets hope HMC have upgraded to this too.

The label have also released the following information for the set;

  1. This 1991 remastered version of the SHEA! documentary is the ultimate version to date. While the picture is truly close to anthology quality, the stereo sound track is fantastic. Turn up the volume and enjoy. This is a great release and by far the best version of this film available. Great job HMC!
