Led Zeppelin – We’re Unknown (Tarantura TCD-44-1, 2)

We’re Unknown (Tarantura TCD-44-1, 2)

Thee Image Club, Miami, FL – February 14th, 1969

Disc 1:  Train Kept A Rollin’, I Can’t Quit You Baby, Dazed & Confused, Killing Floor (includes Lemon Song, Needle Blues, You’ll Be Mine), Babe I’m Gonna Leave You (includes Reflections On My Mind), How Many More Times (includes Roll Over Beethoven)

Disc 2:  White Summer/Black Mountain Side, As Long As I Have You (includes Fresh Garbage, Hush Little Baby, Shake), You Shook Me, Pat’s Delight

When Tarantura announced they were releasing We’re Unknown, it came right on the heels of Empress Valley’s edition of this tape Roll Over Beethoven.  It was said the Tarantura is a longer version and fueled speculation it is the long rumored to be hoarded complete show.  The reality is the label simply spliced some audience noise from earlier in the show onto the beginning and that’s about it.  In the competition between Empress Valley and Tarantura I’ve been impressed with the latter’s handling of the tapes with their careful mastering by removing hiss to bring out the best in these tapes.  That doesn’t apply with this release, however, which is not only not complete but sounds much worse than the Empress Valley.  This has to be one of the bigger disappointments of the year and isn’t recommended on any level whatsoever.  Seek out Roll Over Beethoven which is much better and avoid We’re Unknown.
