Deep Purple – Burn The Witch (Darker Than Blue 057/058)

Burn The Witch (Darker Than Blue 057/058)

Scandinavium, Gothenburg, Sweden – December 11th, 1973

Disc 1:  Intro., Burn, Might Just Take Your Life, Lay Down Stay Down, Mistreated, Smoke On The Water

Disc 2:  keyboard solo, You Fool No One, drum solo / The Mule, Space Truckin’, What’s Going On Here

This concert occurs very early in the Deep Purple Mk III period, about a month after they finished recording Burn and two months before its release.  This tape was first issued on the old Truckin’ vinyl LP and was pressed on CD on White Nights (CS-21/22).  The sound quality is poor, being distant, distorted and bearly listenable.  This will appeal to hard core Deep Purple fans for the rare performance of “What’s Going On Here,” where they get into a bit of “Strange Kind Of Woman” in the middle.  Darker Than Blue are a solid Deep Purple label, but this is of historic interest only.
