Guns N’ Roses – Parental Advisory Explicit Content (Godfather Records GR477)

Parental Advisory Explicit Content (Godfather Records GR477)

(74:54) Dade County Coliseum, Madison, WI – Decmeber 19th, 1987:  It’s So Easy, Mr. Brownstone, Move To The City, I Used To Love Her, Sweet Child O’Mine, Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door, Welcome To The Jungle, band introductions / blues jam, Out Ta Get Me, Paradise City.  Roy Wilkins Auditorium, St. Paul, MN – December 17th, 1987:  My Michelle, Night Train.  Airport Music Hall, Allentown, PA – October 17th, 1987:  Rocket Queen, Mama Kin, Whole Lotta Rosie

Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics contains the complete Guns N Roses Madison recording from December 19th on their tour in support of Alice Cooper.  Madison has been out before on Wake Up Fuckers (Indian Records  IN-06) (from the beginning through “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”).  Godfather produces the entire concert from the beginning the final number of the night “Paradise City.”

Included in the set is the Slash blues jam during the band introduction and Axl Rose’s story of his fight with the Chicago police the night before.  The show is also know for having Cinderella’s Fred Coury filling in on drums since Steven Adler was out with a broken wrist.  The tape begins with Axl telling Madison about the previous night and his fight with the Chicago cops, and how he injured his throat and shouldn’t be singing, and his voice is noticeably weak and hoarse through the set.

The bonus tracks include two songs from two nights before in St Paul, also from a great sounding tape.  The final three tracks are taken from Allentown with the rarity “Whole Lotta Rosie.”  Overall this is a very good compendium of early Guns N Roses tapes in a nice looking package and with great sound.  Recommended for the GNR collector.

  1. Very interesting show considering all the problems from the night before as mentioned above. Excellent sound quality for the Madison show which I believe is a soundboard and the filler or bonus tracks are decent audience sources. I’ve heard Axl sound much worse so don’t let that prevent you from picking this one up. Slash makes up for what Axl lacks this night due to his issues. Godfather do a excellent job with choice of pics as usual. Relive your rebel years with this one just as I have!!! CRANK IT UP…..
